Fun Drills to Help Open Their Gloves

Ever have groundballs hit to your infielders only to have the ball bounce out of their gloves - or never even make it in? If so then check out this great drill to improve glove control and hand strength.

Fastpitch Softball Infield Fielding Glove Open Drill

Here's a fun drill to do with players of all ages to help improve their hand strength and to help them really open up their gloves:

  • Everybody has their glove on and a ball
  • Players spread out all over the infield and everyone starts with their glove closed and the ball resting on the outside of the glove on the pocket
  • When you say GO everyone has to flip the ball into the air with their glove, then open their glove and let the ball fall into their glove, they keep their glove open and quickly flip the ball back into the air and shut their glove so the ball falls back onto the outside of the pocket
  • They then flip it back into the air and close the glove again
  • They continue this without ever letting the ball stay in the glove or actually catch the ball with the glove
  • These are called Glove Flips and the player that can do the most flips wins.
