Softball Excellence DUGOUT

What People are Saying:
"If you coach softball you should take advantage of the knowledge Cindy Bristow is offering through Softball Excellence. I have been involved in fast pitch softball for more than 35 years as a player and coach, and she is the most knowledgeable coach I have worked with. Cindy's basic approach to teaching sound fundamentals, without a bunch of gimmicks, will greatly assist in the preparation of your players to compete physically and mentally. The material she produces is direct, to the point, and easy to absorb."

"There is a ton of information out there, but I couldn't really tell what was good and what was just selling. Someone recommended softball excellence as a sight for information. I checked it out and have done all the eclinics and bought several hard back books and drills. You are very good at explaining this wonderful sport. You put it all in common sense terms and use video and pictures very well. - Thanks again!"
- Dee Swartz
Fastpitch Softball mom/coach

"I just wanted to write and thank you for the outstanding clinic last weekend. Ive attended many coaching clinics with the likes of Bob Knight, Coach K., Rick Pitino, Doug Collins, Larry Brown, and I have to say that your thoughts and philosophies were every bit as insightful, valuable, and entertaining as were these coaching legends. Thank you also for all that you do and have done for the great game of fastpitch softball and our athletes."

Softball Excellence - Insider Article 0033 - How to turn a hesitant hitter into a decisive hitter

How to turn a hesitant hitter into a decisive hitter

By: Cindy Bristow

Here's a great hitting tip that will help turn your indecisive players into more aggressive, attacking hitters at the plate

Fastpitch Softball Hitting Agressive Batter

I recently spoke at The National Softball Coaches Hitting Clinic in Kansas City along with Sue Enquist from UCLA, Deb Hartwig from Just Softball and Brett Swip from Take2. It was a great 2–day clinic packed with tons of good information and this article is about a hitting tip that helped the Bruins dominate at the plate.

While I learned a lot of things, Sue Enquist shared something that she used to help make her UCLA hitters more aggressive and attack pitches instead of being indecisive at the plate.

She simply told them they were swinging at every pitch, and that their only decision was NOT to swing. This concept results in more swing commitment and an attacking mindset at the plate, instead of standing in the batters box waiting until the last second to decide to swing.

Help create more aggressive and decisive hitters by having them ready to swing at every pitch until they see a reason NOT to swing. You only want your hitters to make one decision at the plate – and that's NO! Otherwise it's a swing and a Rip! (coaches – don't confuse "attack" the pitch with "swing early". I'm saying your players should attack the pitch but I'm not saying they should swing early. Your hitters still need to wait long enough to see if they need to say NO on their swing!)
